Impossible new services. Posts that make you do a double take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>April Fools\u2019 Day can be seen as a rare occasion when companies are allowed to show a bit of playfulness in their communication. As you browse through these posts, you may start to notice something. Even with similar ideas, some companies feel genuinely entertaining, while others somehow feel slightly off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where does this difference come from? Is it creativity? Or skill in social media execution? Perhaps there is a simpler reason. Whether it feels true to the company or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Humor Works on Top of Context<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When an April Fools\u2019 post feels engaging, there seems to be a shared premise: the audience already has a certain image of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Its usual brand image<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The nature of its products or services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Its culture and values<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Because this context exists in the audience\u2019s mind, the idea of \u201cplausible, yet impossible\u201d humor can work.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, no matter how elaborate the concept is, if that context has not been sufficiently formed, the message may not land as intended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt feels like they\u2019re trying to say something, but it\u2019s a bit unclear.\u201d Such impressions can emerge. A brand can also be understood as a state in which a company\u2019s story is shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What the company aims to achieve.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What values it holds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What kind of services it provides.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When this story is shared with the audience, communication becomes easier to understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new service may feel like \u201csomething that company would do.\u201d A sustainability initiative may be received as \u201ctrue to the company.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it is this shared context that allows even April Fools\u2019 humor to work naturally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conversely, when communication feels inconsistent, it may be because the underlying story is not clearly connected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A new service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A sustainability initiative<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A new brand message<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Each piece of information may exist, but the connection to the company\u2019s direction is not always clear. As a result, information may reach the audience, but the context does not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is when communication can feel fragmented\u2014 a structure not entirely unlike companies whose April Fools\u2019 posts fail to resonate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Designing the \u201cStory Structure\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We do not see corporate communication as merely the act of sharing information.<br>Rather, we see it as designing a company\u2019s story structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brand, UX, and sustainability may appear to be separate domains, but they all connect to a single question: how a company\u2019s story is shaped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Values. Experience. Social initiatives.
